Safe Travel Ecosystem

At Amadeus, we took time in 2020 to rethink travel. As we listened to customers, partners, trade associations, governments and educational institutions at virtual roundtables and industry events – a common theme emerged: the urgent need to create a safe travel ecosystem.

Safe Travel Ecosystem connected by Global

The recovery of travel and tourism is a matter of urgency. With one in ten jobs associated to travel globally, the loss of employment opportunities, incomes, and the impact on communities large and small, cannot be underestimated.

At Global, we took time in 2020 to rethink travel. As we listened to customers, partners, trade associations, governments and educational institutions at virtual roundtables and industry events – a common theme emerged: the urgent need to create a safe travel ecosystem.

Our use of the word ecosystem is deliberate. We recognize that succeeding in winning back the hearts and minds of travelers – restoring confidence to remove barriers to travel – will only come about through unprecedented collaboration. No one organization can make this happen.

We also believe in the vital role of technology as an enabler of safe travel. Touchless and contactless solutions, biometrics – these are all areas where technology can make a positive difference to the traveler journey.

Join us as we chart a recovery for travel and tourism. Let’s collaborate to create a safe travel ecosystem and get the world moving again.

Amadeus is connecting the dots

We are committed to supporting the replacement of quarantine by testing to reactivate and stimulate travel demand. While we fully understand the need to prevent the spread of the virus – especially in the early days when its characteristics and distribution patterns were not fully understood – the continued use of blanket travel bans and quarantine are blunt tools for addressing a complex and evolving situation.

We aim to work in collaboration with the relevant authorities and all industry players to find standards, coordinate requirements and to build a trusted safe travel ecosystem using a more precision- engineered approach. We believe this will meet not only the health needs of global travelers and the communities they visit, but also the needs of the travel industry as it seeks to recover its economic contribution to the global economy.

Agile setup

We will work with providers and industry bodies to regain traveler trust and restart travel, but we need to act transversally and be agile and act fast.

Global is accelerating its actions to help regain travelers’ trust and boost travel demand. We believe this needs to be a joint effort by all stakeholders. For instance, we are starting to engage with our airline, airport and hospitality customers as well as with new players like test centers and digital health information aggregators to connect and digitalize evidence of testing and approval to travel information into our passenger handling and guest management solutions.

Collaboration

This is the greatest collaboration effort the world has ever seen!

To get people traveling again will require a huge, collaborative effort around the topic of Safe Travel. Efforts not only from the travel and tourism industry but from governments, NGOs and other stakeholders. Sometimes you hear people comparing COVID to the global influenza that took place 100 years ago. But the world is a very different place. Today, we live in a digitally connected information age. This is accelerating the global response to managing COVID. Digital is the key. Together we can explore the opportunities to make a safe travel ecosystem a reality. Through a digital community like our #SafeTravelEcosystem LinkedIn group we can act fast, be agile and work together. That’s why we launched this global network of professionals to attract influencers and decision-makers.
